Danube Promenade

The proximity of the tranquil Danube Promenade provides excellent opportunity for a romantic walk by day or night. Daytime during the Summer you will find tiny stalls selling traditional handicrafts along the river bank. Nightlife is also busy: several fine restaurants tempt you to enjoy an excellent candlelit dinner as a perfect end to a busy day in Budapest or you can also experience the beautiful illuminated sights of the Hungarian capital.

Royal Palace

Just across the Danube, on the Buda side of the capital you will find the historic Castle District. You can easily access the other side of the Danube by walking across the Lánchíd, the oldest bridge of the city. Take the Funicular to the top of the Castle Hill, where you will find the Royal Palace and the majestic Mathias Church.

Parliament

The Houses of Parliament is an impressive eclectic-style building on the Pest of the Hungarian capital on the Danube bank, facing the Royal Palace on the other side. The building contains the democratic legislative assembly of Hungary but it is open for public at certain times of the day. Visitors have the opportunity to visit the legislative chambers where the Hungarian Ministers (MPs) debate important issues. The Parliament building exhibits the historic Holy Crown and the crown jewels as well, Hungarian artifacts dating back to the 11th century. EU members can enter for free.

Basilica

In a mixed residential and business area of Budapest stands the Basilica, which takes its name from the state founder of Hungary, Saint Stephen I. A richly decorated Catholic Church that is open for visits and is often the venue for classical music concerts as well. The cellar of the church contains the catacombs where the famous right arm of Saint Stephen is stored and exhibited. It is an important Hungarian relic, and so each year at Easter a holy procession takes it around the neighbouring streets.
